An EVENT is an outcome from an experiment
An EXPERIMENT is the process by which we obtain an outcome
A RANDOM EXPERIMENT is one where the is uncertainty over which event may occur
There are 3 types of probability studied at this level:
THEORETICAL probability (what should occur) denoted by P(A) = n(A)/n(U) where n(A) is the number of ways that event A can occur and n(U) is the number of possible outcomes
EXPERIMENTAL probability (what does occur) gives the relative frequency of an event, which can be used as an estimate of the theoretical probability
SUBJECTIVE probability (based on past experience) can be used to make an educated 'guess' at what may occur, for example in an upcoming sports match
